Darren Hayes:

Darren was born on May 8, 1972 in Brisbane, Australia, and has the CUTEST accent I have ever heard. (Sorry, I had to throw that in there.) I have never heard anyone sing like him before. His voice is so unique and so versitile.......I'm truly envious. He has an intense love for Anne Rice's Vampire Novels. (If you've never checked them out, you should.) He doesn't drink and is a vegitarian. And, I think most of us have resigned ourselves to the fact tat Dareen is in fact, <sigh>, married.

Daniel Jones:

Daniel was born on July 22, 1973 in Essex, England. He moved to Australia when he was about a year old. His role in Savage Garden is all the cool instrumentals that you hear behind Darren's voice. I haven't heard a lot about Daniel, so keep your eyes peeled for updates. Also, when I met him, I got the impression that Daniel is rather shy. It was so cute! ;) That may be why we don't know quite as much about him. One interesting little tidbit: Daniel likes ham and pineapple on his pizza. Now here's a funny coincidence......I DO TOO!!!! Daniel, if anyone says yuck to that, call me up and I'll tell them what a real pizza is! ; )

How They Met:

A few years ago, Daniel was in a band that needed a lead singer. He put an ad in the newspaper, and, whaddaya know, Darren saw it and auditioned. Although Darren admits it wasn't the best audition of his life, he and Daniel clicked and he got the job.

After the band broke up, Darren and Daniel got together and formed Savage Garden. (Darren picked the name from an Anne Rice Vampire Novel.) They wrote all their music themselves and sent out 150 demo tapes, literally deciding they would make it. Failure was not an option.

Success:

Boy, did it come. Their debut album, Savage Garden , debuted at #1 in Australia, and went platinum within THREE DAYS!!!!!!! It peaked at #1 and is the highest selling Australian album by a recording group in history! I Want You peaked at #4, (it would have been #1 if it hadn't been for that damned Macarena), and was the highest selling Australian single of 1996. To the Moon and Back peaked at #1, and made Savage Garden the first Brisbane-based band to ever have a national #1 single. Truly Madly Deeply peaked at #1, and was the highest selling Australian single of 1997. Break Me Shake Me peaked at #7, and I'll get back to you about Universe.

Back here, the album went platinum and is currently sitting pretty at #47. I Want You peaked at #3. Debuting at #3, I Want You was the highest Australian debut ever on the American charts. Truly Madly Deeply is currently at #1,!!!! The last ausralian group to do that was INXS with their single, "Need You Tonight!" Savage Garden is the most successful band to ever come out of Australia!!!! Congratulations, guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!
