I actually saw Savage Garden in concert in America. When I heard on December 2nd that Savage Garden was going to be in conert right here in Florida, I was completely in shock that I was actually going to see them live in less than 2 weeks. The concert was December 13th at 10pm at Disney's Pleasure Island in Orlando. When we got there it was raining ("Just wonderful," I thought. "It's going to be an outdoor concert and it's raining.")While we were waiting on line for tickets, it had been about 3 hours. (I'm proud to say I was first in line.) Over the loud speakers, (which had previously been playing radio music,) we start hearing the beginning of a Savage Garden song. Me and my best friend Helen were arguing over which song it was, (the sound was very low,) and it turned out to be "Carry on Dancing"- My favorite of theirs. It kinda sounds different than the album version and when Darren started singing,we realized they were rehearsing over on stage, so my mom saved our place in line and we ran as fast as we could over to the stage. When we got there, they were still rehearsing "COD" and then started "Break Me Shake Me" after that.
There were only 8 other people besides us watching them rehearse, so after they finished "BMSM" they came off stage to say hello to everyone! I couldn't believe it! I got to shake hands and say "hello" to Darren and Daniel! I felt so stupid, I had nothing to get autographed. It was still incredible, though. Darren said to everyone,"Don't you guys have any raincoats or umbrellas?" We all said "No." Then he said,"And you are all staying for the concert?" We obviously said "yes." Then he said, "That really makes us feel wonderful that you are all staying here even though it is raining." (What a wonderful Australian accent he has!)
When the concert finally began 3 and a half hours later, it was still raining. (Thank God the show was not canceled!!) After their opener, Diana King, they finally came on!! They performed all the album songs except for "Promises" and also performed "Fire Inside the Man". It was so loud!
After the concert I asked the security guy if they were going to sign autographs. He said, "No, they are in a hurry to leave." So I went over to a resteraunt to get a cherry coke. (I was VERY thirsty after singing and screaming all night.) In order to leave Pleasure Island, we had to pass the stage again. (It still hadn't stopped raining.) So, as we were coming up to the stage again, I saw, like, 12 people gathered at the foot of the stage. Helen and I ran over to the stage and there is Daniel signing autographs!! Darren had just left, and I only had my dad's resteraunt card in my back pocket and my mom thankfully had a pen. So, I stretched my arm as far as it could go and said, "Daniel!" He looked at me with those wonderful blue eyes and taook my pen and card and signed it, "Love Daniel." Then he had to leave. (I felt so bad that Helen didn't get his autograph!) It was out of this world! I'll never forget that day!!
